Planning for the Future of Our Parks and Community
A Comprehensive Master Plan is a long-term guide that helps the Genoa Park District make informed decisions about the future of our parks, facilities, programs and services.
The planning process looks at what we currently offer, how our parks and facilities are being used, the needs of our community and how those needs may change in the years ahead. It also provides an opportunity for residents to share their ideas, priorities and vision for the future of the Park District.
What Does a Comprehensive Master Plan Do?
The plan helps the Park District:
- Evaluate the condition and use of existing parks, facilities and amenities
- Identify community needs and opportunities for improvement
- Gather input from residents and park users
- Review current programs and services
- Identify future recreational needs and trends
- Establish priorities for improvements and new projects
- Guide decisions about park development and facility improvements
- Help prioritize capital projects and future investments
- Plan for maintenance, replacement and improvements to existing amenities
- Create goals and recommendations for the short-term and long-term future
A Community-Based Plan
A Comprehensive Master Plan is more than a list of future projects. It is a reflection of the community’s vision for its parks and recreation opportunities.
Resident input is an important part of the planning process. Surveys, public meetings, community discussions and other forms of public engagement can help the Park District understand what residents value, what is missing and what they would like to see in the future.
A Roadmap for the Future
The completed plan provides the Park District Board and staff with a framework for making future decisions. It helps the Park District determine which projects and improvements should be considered first, how resources can be prioritized and how future development can best serve the community.
The plan is intended to be a living document. As the community changes, priorities can be reviewed and updated to ensure the Park District continues to meet the recreational needs of Genoa and the surrounding community.
Our goal is to plan thoughtfully today so that our parks, facilities, programs and services continue to serve our community for years to come.
